District of Sechelt Juried Art Show and Art Acquisition Award 2011

Overview:

The District of Sechelt and the Arts Culture & Heritage Advisory Committee will be holding a Juried Art Show during the Sechelt Festival of the Arts event, running from October 18 – 23, 2011, to showcase local artists and acquire an art work for the District of Sechelt’s Public Art Collection. The price that will be paid for artwork is up to, but not greater than, $5000. Art works exceeding the value of $5000 will not be considered for the award but will be considered for the show.

The Juror is Greg Bellerby; Director of the Scott Gallery at Emily Carr University, Curator and Teacher of curatorial and studio courses.

A shortlist of works will be selected to be in the show and will be eligible for the Sechelt Art Acquisition Award. You will be contacted if you are shortlisted.

Shortlisted artists will be announced prior to the show opening. The award winner will be announced at the opening reception of the Juried Art Show, to take place at 7:00 p.m., October 18, 2011 at the Seaside Centre in Sechelt.

All artists working in mediums such as painting, paper works, printmaking, mixed media, drawing, ceramics, glass, stone, metal, sculpture, residing on the lower Sunshine Coast (Langdale to Earls Cove), and over 18 years of age are eligible to respond to this call.

Deadlines:

Applications received after the deadline of September 16, 2011 at 4:00 p.m. and/or found to be incomplete will not be reviewed. Artists may submit images of their work electronically beginning August 1, 2011 through to September 16, 2011.

Sales:

All work for sale to the public must remain in the show until October 23, 2011.

Submission Requirements:

A total of five works per artist can be submitted. All work must be sent as electronic images by email to secheltart@hotmail.com

  • JPG file attachments of not more than 150 KB each.
  • Maximum of five JPEGS of completed artworks.
  • Titled as follows: JPEG number, Artist name (01-R.smith)

(London Drugs photo department can assist you if you have questions about JPGs.) You must include the following information with your submission:
If the artwork is by a team, identify it as such, and provide information for all members of the team.

  • First and last name
  • Confirm that you are over 18 years of age
  • Confirm that you reside on the lower Sunshine Coast (Langdale to Earls Cove)
  • Telephone number or cell number
  • Dimensions of each work
  • Title of work
  • Medium (eg. Mixed media, sculpture)
  • Year of completion
  • Sale price
  • Resume
